Most every Dell item has a part number.  This number is located on a sticker with a format that looks like CN-08N907-48644-36C-A276.  In this example, the part number is 8N907.  Each Dell part number is 5 characters in length.  The second set of numbers is the part number, starting with the ‘8’.

Some Sony items have part numbers. Many numbers located on these parts are not their actual number. Most either look like 1-791-453-12 or A8068706A. Another identifying number is IFX-xxx or SWX-xxx or something to this effect.  These numbers are all imprinted on the part.

Most every Compaq part number is located on a rectangular sticker in the format of a six digit number followed by 001 or 002. For example, 348805-001.

Almost all of the older (pre 2003) hp laptops do not have part numbers on the parts. There are very little numbers to identify them with the exception of the inverters which carry a number such as PK070011210.  This PK... number is VERY important when referencing the correct inverter for your laptop.  The new laptops (2003+) carry the same number format as Compaq, ie. 348805-001.

LCD Cable - These cables are sometimes called harness cables by Toshiba or sometimes they are refered to as lcd flex cables.  Their function is to carry an image to the lcd display.
Voltage Regulator - Also called battery board.  Sometimes the hard drive connector will be located on this part, also.  It’s main function is to charge the battery.
